Radu Albu
CLIMBER&MOUNTAIN GUIDE
Born in April 3rd, 1983, Radu fell in love with the mountains as a child. Inspired by his grandfather and the tallest peaks in Romania he lived nearby, his first climb was at the age of 12, up to the Negoiu peak at 2,535 m.
Growing up close to the mountains, Radu was fascinated by the idea of being as high as possible, in the land of always white and where only few can stand. His love for the mountains was an early one, and it only grew stronger during the years when he climbed as an amateur. A few years ago though, Radu decided to upgrade his hobby into a profession and become an accredited climber and a sportsman. Since then, Radu climbed mountains and summited peaks in the Alps, Himalaya, Caucasus, Tatra, Balkans and Carpathians.
Nowadays Radu lives in Cluj Napoca, Romania, and is a Senior Political Advisor, with a Phd. He’s also a mountain guide and a climber, and in 2015, he founded Extreme Expeditions, one of the biggest and well known expeditions organizing company in Romania. Since its start, Radu guided more than 1,500 people all over the world, with a single motto:“There are no shortcuts in life, nor on the mountains. While one can aim high and strong, the summit is optional. Success is giving your all, and coming home safe”. This is Radu’s way to inspire others and do more of what he truly loves.
As a professional, Radu is attracted to Alpine Climbing and going at high altitudes without using supplemental oxygen. He’s now setting the stage to achieving his dream to climb safe all 14 peaks above 8,000 m, without the use of supplemental oxygen.
